Moline Mayor Scott Raes is recovering in a Maywood, Illinois hospital after major open heart surgery on Wednesday.
The Moline City Clerk tells CBS4 that the surgery went well and the mayor has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at Loyola University Medical Center.
Tracy Koranda says the mayor's recovery could take up to eight weeks and that he is in a lot of pain from the large incision doctors had to make. She asks that prayers and good thoughts be sent the mayor's way.
The next couple of days will determine when Mayor Raes will be allowed to leave the hospital. In his absence, Mayor Pro Tem John Knaack will fill in.
Before the surgery Mayor Raes told CBS4 that he has a goal--to participate in the Quad City Marathon this year.
