While Galesburg Public Works crews
have been preparing to tackle the roads Friday night, area residents have also been
preparing for the snow.
"When they hear it on the radio and see it on the news,
they're like 'oh, I gotta go out and grab it."
Lowes employees in Galesburg say they have seen several
customers coming in, searching for winter clean up gear. Some popular items? "The shovels. I
see a lot of people are buying the aerodynamic type of shovel," says Lowes employee Cheryl James.
Some we spoke with today say they've been staying ahead of "Old Man Winter," in preparation for the white stuff. "I bought an aluminum shovel here earlier in the
season, yes, because normally if you wait til in season, you pay more," says John Chenoweth from Table Grove, IL.
For those who have to travel on the roadways this weekend, Galesburg is also prepared with a full staff ready to head
out on the roads.
"First sign of roads getting slick, we'll send a salt
crew out and start salting stop signs and all the major streets," says Galesburg Public Works Director Larry Cox.
