Monmouth College punter Brik Wedekind (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and running back Trey Yocum (Bushnell, Ill./Bushnell-Prairie City) were named All-West Region by D3Football.com for the second time in their careers and offensive lineman A.J. Ulrich (Morris, Ill./Morris) earned his first all-region honor. The selection of the three seniors to the third team is the most all-region selections from any Midwest Conference school.
The all-region selection completed a bookend career for Wedekind who earned his first all-region honor as a punter his freshman year. His season punting average of 41.2 yards per punt ranked him in the top 10 nationally. This season he booted four punts more than 50 yards and landed 10 inside the 20-yard line. Wedekind ends his career as the Scots' record-holder for career punting average (40.2), and as a sophomore set the single season record (42.6). He also boomed an 81-yard punt – second longest all-time – as a freshman.
An exercise science major, Wedekind is the son of Kelley Fisher and Rodney Wedekind.
A four-year starter at running back, Yocum added his second all-region honor after picking up his first selection two years ago. The senior gained a season-record 1,590 yards this year – the sixth highest total in the nation this season. He was seventh nationally in rushing average at 159.0 yards per game. Yocum also broke two other team rushing records this season. His 277 yards against Lawrence set the single-game record, and he surpassed the career mark, gaining 4,573 yards during his four-year career. He also ends his career as the all-time touchdown leader with 62 TDs.
A business and wellness administration major, Yocum is the son of Kerry and Shawna Yocum.
Ulrich – an offensive lineman – paved the way for the Monmouth ground game to grind out more than 237 yards per game while putting up more than 430 yards of total offense. With the athletic Ulrich in the trenches, the Scots' offensive unit ranked 18th nationally in both fewest sacks allowed and fourth-down conversions.
A public relations major, Ulrich is the son of Alex and Katie Ulrich.
Wedekind and Yocum joined Hall of Fame running back Ron Baker (Associated Press), return man Evan Haffner (Don Hansen's Football Gazette), quarterback Alex Tanney (D3Football.com) and offensive linemen Josh Kotecki and Dan Schwindenhammer (both D3football.com) as the only Scots to earn all-region honors multiple times in their career. The Scots have had 18 D3Football.com all-region performers since 2008.
