It can wipe you out for days, keep you home from work or school and it can be dangerous.
That's why the Rock Island County Health Department is helping you stay safe from the flu.
The health department opens up a walk–in flu clinic Tuesday where anyone can get the flu shot.
The vaccine will protect you against the 3 strains of the disease that were the most common during the last flu season.
There's also a new vaccine this year that protects against 4 strains of the flu. The health department will have that available for kids.
Rock Island County health officials say it's best to get the shot now because it takes 2 weeks for the vaccine to work.
And don't worry, you most likely won't see any side affects except a sore arm.
"Sometimes people say I get the flu when I get the flu vaccine. When you get the inactivated flu vaccine which is what we offer here at the health department it's impossible to get the flu," said Registered Nurse with the Rock Island County Health Department Sherie Dobereiner.
The clinic is open Tuesday at the Rock Island County Health Department on 25th Avenue in Rock Island from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, and kids 6 months to 8 years old can go in until noon.
The clinic will be up and running at the health department on Tuesdays through the end of October.
