Two seniors who were instrumental in leading St. Ambrose to a 48-37 season-opening win over Taylor were honored by the Mid-States Football Association today. Jeremy Wallace was named the Midwest League's Defensive Player of the Week and Eric Williamson was named the Offensive Player of the Week after their performances Saturday.
Wallace, a linebacker from New Lennox, Ill., recorded 10 tackles, including a sack, to lead the Bees defense. He also intercepted a pass. Wallace, coming off an all-American season in 2012, was instrumental in helping SAU limit Taylor to just six second-half points.
After misfiring on his first three throws, Williamson bounced back to finish 24-of-35 for 375 yards and two touchdowns. The quarterback from Springfield, Ill., tied a school record with his seventh career 300-plus-yard passing game in leading the Bees back from an early 14-0 deficit.
The pair will next lead St. Ambrose into Saturday's road game at No. 5 Saint Francis (Ind.). Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
