The Village of Hampton Illinois is losing water and thousands of dollars along with it.
Since April, Village Clerk Mike Toalson said the village has been searching for a massive leak in the system.
Last month, the village meter showed more than 2 million gallons of water was unaccounted for.
Hampton has spent nearly $15,000 dollars more this month, for water they don't have.
"It's probably close enough to the river, that it's not coming to the surface, it's running underground into the river, and you can't even see it." Toalson said the village has enough money in reserves to cover the cost, and plan to investigate.
Right now, the village does *not* plan to raise water rates.
