A getaway girl scouts can call their own. But one local girl scout camp could be in for a makeover.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois want to renovate Camp Conestoga in New Liberty, Iowa.
Leaders say they want to update it and make it a haven for girl scouts of the 21st century.
Now the question is how to do that.
Leaders say they want to make some big changes that could include a new facility, but it's still very early in the process. They also have to come up with a plan to raise the money.
The goal is to have renovations complete and a transformed camp up and running by summer 2015.
"It will just be so much more up to date. We've looked at other councils and we've looked at what they have built, and you know it's just a place where the girls feel comfortable where they feel safe and we do have some amenities that they might not have right now," said Vice President of Development and Marketing Shelly Wells Cain.
The development will be discussed at a meeting Tuesday night at Camp Conestoga.
Local girl scout leaders and scouts are welcome to attend and weigh in. The meeting is from 6:00PM to 8:00PM in the Camp Conestoga Dining Hall.
