Black Hawk Historic Site was transformed into a Native American Pow Wow this weekend.
Rock island was originally inhibited by the Native American tribe Mesquakie and Suaken fox. Organizers say it's important to trace back to the roots of the land and learn the history.
Traditional hoop dancers also took over the circle stage.
"It's a sharing time for native people. It's educating the community about native people. You don't get this in history books. You get a really live experience of coming here and sharing native, especially the Sauce fox and Mesquakie culture," says Regina Tsosie, President, Native American Coalition of the Quad Cities.
Vendors sold tradition fry bread, fox fur, and handmade walking sticks.
