Don't have air conditioning to keep cool in this blistering heat? Don't worry. A cooling center has opened up at the Rock Island Township Hall on 7th Avenue in Rock Island. It's open for the rest of the week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is welcome to everyone who wants to come keep cool. There's even a free meal at 5:30 p.m. people are welcome to stay for. While many didn't take advantage of the center Monday, organizers are hoping people spread the word that help is out there.
"I think it's probably a case where the folks maybe most need it maybe don't watch the TV news don't read the papers so if we can get word out to people that know people that are at risk they can get the word to them if they have transportation we can keep them cool," said Alan Carmen, RI Township Supervisor.
We've posted a list of cooling centers open in the Quad Cities on our website, www.cbs4qc.com.
