This is the 10th year Tribute to our Fallen has set up at Davenport
It's a three day event designed to honor those who have died
for our country; and help their families, cope.
"It's a perfect time to remember him," said Daniel
Pannier's young brother, Phillip, died in Iraq in 2008, just
"There's a lot of things I'd like to have done with
him, but through things like this you've always got the memories," said
Friday night Pannier was talking to the crowd about his
family's experience with losing a loved one to war; which is just what tribute
to our fallen is all about.
"It's basically just an entire weekend 24/7 of being
able to come out and have some peace here on this field, hopefully to find some
type of closure," said Gary Chrones of the Mississippi Valley Patriots,
the organizers of the event.
The main attraction is the flags.
Each has a list of names, honoring over 6,000 U.S. service
members who have lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The flags, each donated by a family who've lost a loved one,
is guarded around the clock the whole weekend.
"We'll actually have people that will show up at 3, 4,
o'clock in the morning. That just want
to an opportunity to be alone in reverence," said Chrones.
And for Daniel Pannier, it's doing the trick.
"I just can't believe what they do here. I mean, it's absolutely amazing the amount of
time they put into setting this up," he said.
The Tribute to our Fallen is open all weekend.
