It was August 21, 1996,17 years ago today, that an eleven year old girl went missing.
Trudy Appleby was last seen in her Moline driveway riding off with a man in his 20s with brown hair.
Over the years theories and tips have come in about her disappearance, but nothing has come of anything and there is no trace of her anywhere.
Every year since she went missing folks gather to hold a candlelight vigil to honor Trudy in hopes of keeping light on the case.
Last August, police received a tip on Trudy's disappearance that led them to an island on the Rock River near Colona, though nothing turned up.
And police say over the 17 years countless tips and leads have come in, but nothing has lead them anywhere, but that doesn't mean they've given up.
"We treat it very seriously and it's still very much an open investigation. And I can only hope that someday that something happens that this case is blown wide open and we can get this case solved," said Moline Police Sergeant Brian Johnson
The vigil for Trudy Appleby will be held tonight at 7:30 at the East Moline Baptist Church.
