Today marks the grand opening of a technology hotspot in Bettendorf, breathing new life into an empty building.
The ColoHub Data Center will open its doors in the old Eagle's Grocery store building later today.
Bettendorf Economic Development Director Steve Van Dyke says it's a milestone for the community for several reasons.
The building has been vacant for 9 years and Van Dyke says filling the abandoned space is huge.
The data center owned by Geneseo Communications will hold other companies information in its secure location.
In addition to creating some jobs, the new center will put Bettendorf on the map in the technology world.
Geneseo Communications also runs a similar facility in Chicago, something Van Dyke says could bring some new faces and hopefully businesses to the QCA.
"Maybe some businesses from Chicago will come out and take a look and say hey this is a wonderful place this Quad City area. So we hope it could be a benefit to attracting new businesses and jobs to the region," said Van Dyke.
If you want to check out the ColoHub Data Center there will be an open house from 12:00PM to 4:00PM Thursday, it is open to the public. The facility is at 2701 Devils Glen Road.
