Improving the quality of education for local students. That's the idea behind "PRIME" or "Promoting Rock Island Milan Education Grants.
Today, 37 teachers and schools were awarded nearly $70,000 through the program. The money will go towards everything from buying calculators for classrooms to expanding the collection of instruments for bands.
"This is equipment that goes directly hands on to the students," says Cosette Thoms of Rock Island/Milan Education Grants. "It really does affect academic performance throughout the district."
The grants are made possible through donations from individuals and businesses in the Rock Island and Milan community.
