We now know the names of the two boys who died yesterday in the Edwards River near New Boston, IL.
The Mercer County Coroner says they are 12 year old Harland Jesse Bullock and his nine year old brother Nicolas Bullock. The boys are from rural New Boston.
A family is devastated Friday night, after two brothers in Mercer County are found dead in the Edwards River.
A close friend of the family told CBS 4 the brothers went missing Friday morning, and a dive team pulled the bodies of a 12 year old, and 9 year old from the Edwards River near Rural New Boston, Illinois.
Sheriff Tom Thompson said the boys must have been walking in the river near the bank, and got stuck in holes beneath the water.
"The current carried them away, they weren't seen after that," said Sheriff Thompson.
"We always tell our kids you can't trust the Edwards," said Robbye Mowry, a neighbor and close family friend who said she was there when police discovered the bodies, and is devastated.
"I'm heartbroken with it all. I'm sick with it all to know these little boys are gone now," said Mowry.
She said her grand kids are the same age as the two brothers, and can't imagine what the family is going through.
"God wanted both these boys really bad to take them both at once like this, and I just thank God that they had one son that was saved, and my heart goes out for their little brother that lost his two older brothers."
The youngest of three brothers is only 6 years old.
Emergency responders said it's a scene they won't soon forget.
"When you have a fatality of any kind, it's tragic but when its children it's just tough and all the people that were out here, they were affected by it."
The Mercer County Sheriff has not released the boys names at this time, out of respect for the family.
