Blood drive and a movie. That's the theme at the Putnam museum today.
The Mississippi valley regional blood center was taking donations all day to make up for yesterday's July 4th holiday.
Organizers say platelets have a short shelf life, so squeezing in a blood drive before the weekend starts makes a big difference.
"Because patients in our hospitals everyday need blood. It's not something they plan ahead for and it's really the blood on the shelves that saves people's lives," says Sharee Hoegerl, Recruiter, Blood Center.
Today, donors got t–shirts and a free IMAX movie ticket.
