A groundbreaking day for downtown Rock Island.
The Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation is teaming up with Metrolink and the city of Rock Island to create a transit oriented space.
The area will include a new metroLINK transit station, a bikeway, and new apartments.
The units will be right on the river and will go along with the city's push for sustainable living in the downtown area.
"This is very important because people like to transfer from one bus to another. They want to be able to go to other parts of the community to other cities and this will be an ideal central location for them to do it," says Dennis Pauley, Rock Island Mayor.
Construction will start in month and will be complete by next spring.
