The truck driver has been charged with improper lane usage.
The east bound lane of I-80 re-opened this afternoon. However, one lane westbound is still shut down for clean up. That road is not expected to re-open until sometime tomorrow.
Police say I-80 could likely be shut down between Annawan and Atkinson for most of Thursday.
Just before 6 this morning a semi-truck tanker crashed on I-80. Witnesses say the truck was traveling west-bound in the left lane crossed to the right lane, continued through the right shoulder and rolled into the North ditch.
The driver was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries to Hammond Henry Hospital. A small chemical spill occurred from the tanker. Hazardous Material teams have responded to the scene for clean-up.
There is no immediate health risk due to the spill.
All traffic is being diverted onto US 6 which is causing major delays this morning.
I–80 is shut down right now in Henry County.
Crews are on the scene of a tanker truck rollover near Atkinson Illinois, that accident occurred on the westbound lanes at mile marker 29. Police say the tanker has leaked fluid and haz–mat crews are on the scene.
Traffic is currently being diverted around the accident in both directions onto highway 6. The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
We have a crew on the scene and will bring you more information as we get it .
