Quad Citians put on their walking shoes this morning to take part in the annual JDRF Walk for a Cure.
More than 2,500 people laced up their sneakers to raise money for diabetes research.
The Eastern Iowa Chapter hosted the event at the Niabi Zoo.
Twenty three million Americans live with diabetes and today folks came out to help those affected.
"These people are raising money. They've been working really hard for a couple months and raising money. They are turning in today and this is a kind of thank you for all the hard work they've been doing," says Kari Turner, Development Coordinator.
Organizers were hoping to raise more than $200,000 today.
