Investigation continues into the fire on Credit Island
By: Kylen Mills
A Quad City landmark goes up in flames, and we still don't know why.
Today fire crews continue to try and figure out what started the fire at the clubhouse.
The city has tried to protect this century old landmark from flooding for years..but this flood wall actually made it more difficult for crews to get to the fire that's threatening the life of this building.
The fire was spotted just before 8am yesterday. When firefighters arrived the flames were already bursting out of the roof of the building.
Crews were there for several hours trying to get it under control, and even had to use flood water from the Mississippi to try and knock down the flames.
No one was in the building at the time.
The clubhouse is a hundred years old and was recently remodeled in 2009 after flooding in 2008. Now the clubhouse is used as a venue for birthday parties and weddings.
Mayor Gluba says he would like to rebuild the Clubhouse, but we still don't know how much damage there is or if this historic building can be saved.
