A bomb scare shuts down a Clinton, IA neighborhood for hours Saturday afternoon.
It turns out what police thought was an explosive, was actually harmless, but they said after what happened at the Boston Marathon, they didn't want to take any chances.
Clinton Police said the scare started around 4:30 PM Saturday afternoon when they got a call from a mailman on his route about a suspicious package on the side of Main Avenue.
The State Fire Marshall was then called in to inspect the object.
From there, authorities shutdown the stretch of road, and asked some residents to evacuate, while others stayed in their homes, like Jean Dau.
"He knocked on the door and he said if you folks don't have to go out, please don't because we have a suspicious package that could be a pipe bomb. We said okay, we're not really going anyway," said Dau.
After a few hours of investigating, police said the suspicious package was actually just a metal wrapped in cloth.
They said it must have fallen off a truck.
"It turned out, it was nothing, but as the officer told me that it in light of everything that's happened in the East Coast right now, in Boston, you know they have to take precautions."
Jean said it's better to be safe than sorry.
"We don't want any of our law enforcement people to get hurt obviously or anyone else for that matter."
Police are still investigating the incident, but said the public was never in any danger.
