A Sterling, Illinois man is behind bars tonight after police say he beat a family member and stole two guns.
Officers were called out Thursday morning to a home in the 500 block of East Avenue after Guillermo Swearinger, 26, reportedly battered a family member and took a shotgun and a rifle from the home's garage.
Sterling Police later located Swearinger in the 800 block of West 4th Street getting into a car with an object wrapped in a coat. They later stopped the car and found a .22 rifle inside.
Swearinger was arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and not having a FOID card. He is being held in the
Whiteside County Jail.
