Workers at Suburban Construction in Davenport have been out braving the cold all winter long, and the weather can impact business.

One of their exterior designers tells us while sometimes the cold can help bring in business, the elements can actually stop customers from coming in.

"Whenever it's freezing or it's cold or it's snowing or it's raining, they're really really hesitant to have any work done to their house because their house is very important to them and they don't want anything to happen. So that's usually the problem," said Suburban Construction exterior designer Travis Bailey.

At suburban they mainly work on windows, sidings and doors of homes and buildings, but sometimes the weather makes it dangerous for workers to do their jobs.

"So we don't want them going out when elements are super bad. That puts things behind when it is super cold they'll pull off a job, and then they start to stack up," said Bailey.

The icy temperatures not only affect business, but also the workers.

"Sinuses from the ups and downs with the temperature and the wind really affects me," said construction worker Bill Whitmire.

Whitmire tells us they work shorter hours in the cold and projects take much longer to finish.   He says even though they wear layers and warm up in their trucks, there's no way to avoid Mother Nature.

"You just try to put up as much as you can with it. There's days you can't work in it but we try to work every day," said Whitmire.

And after working out in the cold and wind for months, Whitmire adds that all the workers are ready for spring.

"Our job gets a lot better, everybody starts enjoying it a lot more, when it's nice out. We'll put more hours in, have healthier checks, we'll be healthier, bottom line the company gets healthier," said Whitmire.

Suburban employees tell us they usually see a boost in spring business by now, but until Mother Nature cooperates; they'll just have to bundle up.
