Moline Police say that several students at Moline High School were sharing naked pictures of their classmates.
Detectives interviewed students last week and found that cell phone pictures of female students were sent to a large number of others at the school.
The girls had knowingly shared the pictures with a friend, who later began passing them around.
Police have spoken to the girls and their parents and determined that the pictures are not considered criminal. However they stress that taking or sharing of such pictures can lead to charges.
The Police Department and the Moline School District are working on a program to educate students and their parents on the dangers of sexting.
