Students at Black Hawk College will get one step closer to student housing today.
The Black Hawk College Foundation and a developer will break ground on a student housing development right across from the college.
Students we talked to are excited about the possibility of living with friends, and saving money on gas.
This housing complex will be the first of its kind on the Black Hawk campus.
The Villas will be home to 120 students, with apartment style 4 bedroom 4 bath or 2 bedroom 2 bath suites.
The developer Bluffstone will also build a 3000 sq foot clubhouse next to the housing with a fitness center, study rooms and other amenities.
The buildings will go up on the north side of campus, just north of 34th Ave.
The developer tells us they hope to start construction within the next week, and they plan to have the apartments available for rent for the fall semester.
"Black Hawk does provide such a great educations and an opportunity for their students, but so many, they drive to campus, they go to class and they turn around and leave. When students are able to live on campus they're able to participate in more activities, said Kelly Young of Bluffstone.
She added that living on campus enhances students experience in more ways than one.
"They feel more connected with campus and that's super important. To get more out of that experience and you know, not only that, the students actually learn more about life," said Young.
Students can learn more and actually apply on campus at the welcome center or online, you can click here.
The groundbreaking will be at 3:00pm today at the site, and anyone is welcome.
