Budget problems in the River Bend School District in Fulton, Illinois forces school leaders to let 3 teachers go.

It took school board members more than an hour to decide the fate of three teachers.

Some disappointing news for many students, parents, and teachers who went to bat at Monday night's meeting for a popular teacher and coach Dustin Coit.  He is one of three teachers who lost their job.

The other two include a special ed teacher and a middle school teacher.  Originally the board was looking to cut 5 teaching positions but they decided to take out $100,000 from a reserve fund to save the other 2 teachers jobs.  Superintendent Chuck Holiday said they are being forced to make cuts because of losing more than $200,000 in state funding for next year.

The board also decided to eliminate bus service to students living within one and a half miles of school.

The board is delaying a decision on whether or not to cut a popular program for high school seniors in which they get out of the classroom and gain experience in their potential career field.

The next school board meeting is April 15th.
