Budget problems for the River Bend School District means several teacher's jobs are on the line tonight in Fulton.

Superintendent Chuck Holliday tells us the school board will decide whether to let go of five teachers.

They also could decide to cut two programs, all in hopes of saving nearly $400,000.

He tells us the district needs to do this to break even next year, or they will have to dip into their contingency funds. Holliday says a big part of the problem is a loss in state funding.

In addition to cutting teachers the district is looking at getting rid of family consumer sciences and their community involvement program where high school seniors get experience in a possible career choice.

Tonight the board will also discuss other ways to save money but they may not make decisions on those cuts until their meeting in April.

The board of education meeting is at 6:30 tonight at the River Bend Middle School multi–purpose room.

The meeting is open to the public and there will be a time for people to make comments to the board.

Then the board will go into a closed session where they will discuss and vote on the cuts.

After they will make an announcement on what they decide.
