Trinity in Bettendorf is trying keep patients from falling through the cracks.
"The expansion for medicaid that will make it possible for everybody to have health insurance is fully paid by the federal government, and in difficult economic times we hope the state will take advantage of that additional payment," said Rick Seidler, Trinity Health Executive Officer.
Hospital officials and Iowa lawmakers met on Friday to see how medicaid expansion could benefit patients' care.
Without it, Trinity officials said the hospital could pay more than $2 million dollars next year in lost payments by patients who don't have insurance.
The deadline to request more medicaid from the federal government is this fall.
