And March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Genesis officials say getting a routine colonoscopy after you turn 50 could help prevent colon cancer.
"If somebody goes in for their routine colonoscopy, has polyps removed before they have a chance to turn into cancer, you've truly prevented cancer from happening," Kim Turner, a Cancer Services Specialist with Genesis, says.
Colon cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer deaths in Iowa.
