Police say a Davenport mother left her four year old home alone for what she thought would be hours.
According to police reports, April Benischek, 33, went to work on Wednesday, leaving behind her four year old daughter. Beneischek knew the child would be alone until her other daughter, an 8 year old, came home from school.
Police say Benischek expected that the 8 year old would then watch the younger daughter until she got off of work in the evening.
The incident was discovered after the Department of Human Services arrived at the apartment to follow up on an earlier complaint and the four year old answered the door.
Reports said that because of the condition of the apartment the child would have been exposed to numerous hazards while alone.
Benischek is charged with Felony Child Endangerment and Felony Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person. She has been released on bail.
Both children are currently in the care of a family member.
