A leader in Iowa's Catholic church is welcoming the newly elected Pope Francis the first.
Bishop Martin Amos from the Diocese of Davenport said in an online post that Cardinals picked a leader who could bring reform to issues such as church scandals, mass attendance, the role of women in the church and evangelization.
Bishop Amos says 76-year-old Bergoglio from Argentina is the first Pope from outside Europe in more than a thousand years.
