Tonight Davenport City Council is set to vote on reducing Harrison St from 4 lanes to 2.
A traffic study done by the city showed that cutting Harrison down would not significantly increase traffic or create jams.
The lane reduction would take place on Harrison from 5th St to 18th St, except during the early morning hours.
From 3:00am to 9:00am three lanes would be open for the morning rush.
The outside lanes would be used for parking the rest of the time, to help businesses along that road.
"We were getting reports of water splashing up on the store windows when people drive in the gutters during a storm. So there's a lot of different reasons to do it. Also to slow down traffic in the corridor," said Davenport City Traffic Engineer Gary Statz.
If the change is approved the request will then be sent to the Iowa Department of Transportation for the final approval.
Davenport City officials tell us they would like the lane reduction to happen in June.
City Council meets at 5:30 tonight at City Hall.
