Budget cuts will mean fewer library services for the Moline school district.

"We have to prioritize and make reductions and these are tough times," said Clint Christopher, Moline Assistant Superintendent.

School leaders voted Monday night to eliminate all librarian positions at their two middle schools.

They also cut 24 teaching positions in an effort to try and reduce a nearly $4 million dollar deficit.

We talked to one librarian who got a pink slip, and she said she hopes the district had the students in mind when making deep spending cuts.

"I'm just concerned that the library still be accessible to students and that students still utilize it and teachers still utilize it even though there will not be a professional here," said Sherri Martin, 15 year Librarian at John Deere Middle School.

The district hopes to hire the librarians back once they can afford it.
