Students in Dixon have missed eight days of school and it doesn't look like they will be hitting the books again anytime soon.
After more than five hours of negotiations, the teacher's union walked out.
Teachers have been on strike since the end of February.
Since then, students have been out of class and contract negotiations have dragged on for hours on end.
Dolph Ricks, a spokesperson for the Dixon Education Association, told CBS4 their side just gave up on making any more compromises after they say they were stonewalled yet again by the school board. He added they just want a stable teacher salary schedule.
"We're not negotiating any more," says D.E.A. Vice President Aaron Eddy.
Now on the other side, district leaders say they saw a whole different story.
"We went with a two year contract that gave them a 2% bonus the first year then second year a plus step that they asked for," says Mike Juenger, Superintendent. "Met in the middle on insurance, retirement was a sticking point but basically the D.E.A. refused that."
Neither side has said when they'll come back to the table and negotiate.
