A Davenport home suffered major damage in a late morning
fire.
The call came in around 11:15 this morning for a house in
the 4600 block of Ashcraft Court.
When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming out of the windows
from the kitchen and found the fire spreading through the ceiling and into the
2nd floor.
No one was home at the time.
The Davenport fire chief said they were able to stop the
fire just in time to save the home.
"It was lucky we caught it when we did because it got
into the attic. And when it gets to the attic it's got a head start on you. And
it can be pretty hard to put out sometimes. But we were able to make it stop,"
said Chief Robbie Minnaert.
While the home is not a total loss, the family will not be
able to live there for some time.
No word on what started the fire.
