A sure sign that spring is on its way, the Niabi Zoo has opened for the season.
And it's a golden year for the zoo, as it marks its 50th year in business. As a way to welcome everyone back, zoo officials are offering free admission through Friday.
Three new baby animals and a larger elephant habitat are some of the big additions this year.
Zoo director Marc Heinzman says it's all to inspire both adults and kids in the Quad Cities.
"We're always trying to inspire people to care basically," Heinzman said. "That's the biggest thing about our mission here at the zoo. It's getting people to care about the natural world and animals and conserving wild animals and wild places."
And if visiting one day isn't enough for your kids, the zoo is looking for junior zookeepers for the summer.
It's for ages 14 to 17. For more information on how to apply, click here. Applications are due April 15th.
