When Susan Clark found out her older brother needed a kidney, she didn't think twice about giving up her own.
"I just knew that I would be able to do this for my brother that it would be the gift of life to him," says Susan Clark, Organ Donor.
Five years ago, Susan found out her active brother tom needed help.
"My older brother came down with a rare auto immune disease that destroyed both of his kidneys," says Clark.
The kidney filters the blood and is a vital organ for the human body.
So it didn't take long for Susan to step up.
"As soon as I heard that, I didn't blink, I didn't doubt. I just knew that he needed a donor and I would be very happy to do that for him."
Susan's families story is just one of thousands of people who've made a difference donating an organ.
Today at the QC Botanical Center, the Quad Cities Chapter of Hadassah sponsored the "To Save a Life" program to raise awareness about this powerful gift.
"I would like to see more donors out there. People can live with one kidney," says Janet Leeman, Organ Receiver.
Today, 117,000 people are waiting for working organs. Susan says giving up her kidney has been beyond fulfilling.
"Probably the most wonderful thing. The gift that I've been able to give him. The gift of life, it's been a joy to me," says Clark.
If you want to donate an organ, just talk to your doctor about getting screened. Susan says you won't regret it.
