While most stayed inside Sunday, some brave souls ventured out into the chilly waters to help support the Special Olympics.
The water was just above freezing but temperature aside, there was a warm feeling seeing so many come out for the cause.
"I felt the love, I felt the love," says Herb Schultz.
"We have people who have no affiliation to Special Olympics and they just want to do it and it's a good cause and it's a crazy fun event that nobody else is doing," says Cathy Betar, area director, Special Olympics.
And the plunge isn't just here in the Quad Cities.
"We'll have 20 of them throughout the state hoping to raise $1.8 million for Special Olympics," she adds.
For some, the plunge carries special meaning.
"I have a son who is an athlete," says Evan Young. "So that's my driving ambition."
"We have a grandson that's special needs," says Judy Blomgren. "We know he will be a part of that program someday. It means a lot."
All of the money raised will go toward supporting around 800 Special Olympians here in the Quad Cities.
