Two
businesses displaced by the Rock Island Wal-Mart will soon have a new home.
As the
city broke ground on a new development project today.
The
city is working with the 11th St
Development Partner to transform the old trailer court on 11th Street and Blackhawk Road into 7 new buildings for
businesses.
"This
is really going to be great everybody at the college is really excited,"
said Evelyn Phillips, Chair of the Black Hawk College Board.
One of
the businesses moving for Wal–Mart is the Black Hawk College Adult
Learning Center.
The
center will have a 13,000 square foot facility built at the new development.
"It
opens it up more to more students being able to get to us. I understand they're
going to have bus service right out here, so that's going to be great,"
said Phillips.
Another
business that will make the move for the new Wal-Mart is Chris Elsberg's State
Farm Insurance office.
She
says in addition to helping with costs, the city has gone the extra mile to
make the move easy.
"The
city has been wonderful they really are trying to keep businesses happy. They
want to keep everyone in Rock Island
and growing," said Elsberg.
The
developer tells us there are still four other spaces available. They hope to
start construction in June.
