While many schools closed on Tuesday, Davenport stayed open, but then let students out early.
Both decisions had some parents upset, and district leaders defending their decision.
School leaders made the call around 10 am Tuesday to dismiss students 2 hours early at all davenport schools.
But some parents said school should have been called off from the very beginning.
Not a flake was falling when Dana Linze got to Washington Elementary, making it just in time to pick up two of her four kids early from school.
She said the district could have saved her the hassle of trying to get off work early, if they would have canceled school from the start, "I don't get paid to be here 2 hours early, I'll tell you that much."
Despite many other districts closing on Tuesday due to dangerous weather, Davenport Superintendent Arther Tate said there wasn't enough snow or wind to warrant closing, "It's always the safety of driving and today there was nothing to see on the roads that we had to go by the forecast what would be coming."
But a parent who drove her kids to school said she's surprised Davenport didn't cancel right away because of the slick snowy roads.
"I had somebody sliding almost the entire way back and forth," said Parent Athena Gilbraith.
Tate said it's a tough call to cancel schools, and stands by his decision, "We anguish over these decisions. We gather all the information that we possibly can and we confer and when I make a decision it's always on the side of safety."
The district canceled all evening activities and meetings Tuesday.
