The sale of Thomson Prison is moving ahead.
The Illinois Senate voted today to approve the transfer of the facility to the federal government.
The bill, SB 30, now moves to the Illinois House.
Thomson was built for $140 million in 2001 and never opened for maximum security prisoners. In 2012 the state agreed to sell the prison to the federal government for $165 million.
