Iowa schools have earned some bragging rights.
The Iowa Department of Education says the state has the highest graduation rate in the country. This after the rate went up one percent to 89 percent, from 2011 to 2012.
Rates have increased in more than half of Iowa's school districts with high schools. In the 10 largest districts, eight saw rates rise.
But the Iowa Department of Education says while the numbers are strong, the state needs to make sure students are prepared for the next step.
