Iowa lawmakers are miles and thousands of dollars apart when it comes to their budget goals.
Governor Branstad put out a $6.5 billion plan last month to start July 1st. But the House and Senate have not come to an agreement.
The house wants to spend $6.4 billion and keep expenses down, while the senate wants to spend $6.9 billion and make investments to improve programs.
Both sides say their plans meet the state requirement not to spend more than 99 percent of the revenue.
