Police catch alleged ATM thieves

On 05/12/12, Sterling Police responded to the Northland Mall regarding a forced entry break in where an ATM was removed from the mall where a stolen John Deere Gator was used. Later that same day, the Sterling Police responded to Eggs in Paradise regarding a forced entry burglary where another ATM was stolen.

On Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 the Whiteside County Grand Jury indicted Robert W. Zais, 25 of Tampico, IL and Robert A. Lambert, 32 of Kewanee, IL on two counts of Burglary, one count of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, two counts of Theft, and one count of Criminal Damage to Property, all felonies.   Warrants were issued for both Zais and Lambert with bond being set at $100,000. Both are currently being held in the Henry County Jail, Cambridge, IL on other pending charges.

Sterling Police were assisted in the case by the Whiteside County Sheriff's Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
