And the snow made for tough traveling on QCA Roadways. The roads looked much better Tuesday night than they did this afternoon.
They're mostly wet with some areas of slush. But, drivers who were out on the roads all day said it wasn't anything but smooth sailing.
Heavy snow and strong winds made it hard to see, if not impossible at time for folks trying to get around the Quad Cities, like FedEx driver Simone Runyane.
"When I went to break I'd actually start to slide and I'd keep sliding and I would keep trying to break but it took me a long time to break so I was afraid I might tip over an embankment," Runyane said.
Others were just plain afraid to get behind the wheel.
"A lot of them were saying just that the weather was going to be too bad for them to drive some lived in Rock Island and in Muscatine and they were just afraid of getting on the interstate," Amy Moony of Davenport said.
Semi-truck Driver John Moore said some people who did manage to make it on the Interstate eventually ended up in a ditch.
"Very bad I saw four or five cars off the road one truck jack–knifed because it was pretty bad," Moore said.
Moore said drivers need to give themselves some extra time when heading out.
"Just keep your distance between yourself and a semi and pay attention to what's going on around you." he said.
Both Iowa and Illinois State Patrol said while the roads may look okay you don't want to go normal speed just yet.
They also said it's best not to use cruise control in conditions like this.
