(AP) A jury has found a former Davenport alderman not guilty of assault charges after a weeklong trial.
A Scott County jury returned the verdict Monday afternoon in the case of 71-year-old former alderman Keith Meyer.
He was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon after allegedly pointing a shotgun at a neighbor on Nov. 11, 2012.
Meyer, who represented himself during the trial, says he grabbed the gun from his home as a matter of self-defense.
Meyer was a Davenport alderman for two terms. He lost his bid for re-election in 2007.
