Someone is tampering with fire hydrants in Moline, and police need your help to catch them.
The last two weekends officers have responded to calls of leaking hydrants. It turns out someone had opened the valves and water was spilling out into the street.
Police say not only did the tampering waste water but it caused traffic hazards and the potential for property damage.
Tampering with a public water supply can be prosecuted by the Federal government under Homeland Security laws.
Police are asking the public to keep an eye on hydrants in their neighborhoods. If you have any information you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 309-762-9500.
