It was all hands on deck Saturday to help out a local girl suffering from epilepsy.
When Kellsey McGuire was 18-months-old, she was diagnosed with epilepsy after suffering from complex partial seizures.
Now that she's 7-years-old, Kellsey's mom, Brandi, has been working tirelessly to help raise awareness about the issue through events like Saturday's auction and bingo.
"My whole goal as about was I wanted Kellsey to be able to go to school and not have to worry about people not understanding epilepsy," says Brandi McGuire.
"There's always been a stigma around epilepsy and its so sad people are scared of it," adds Kelly Caccamo, a family friend.
All the money raised will go toward helping canine assistance, a non profit that offers companion and service dogs, as well as seizure alert dogs. Friends and family hope one day Kellsey will have a dog of her own.
"She has seizures during the night and I think the whole thing that hit home for me was when Brandi was talking about it goes ‘every night I tuck my daughter into sleep. I just worry she will have a seizure,'" Caccamo says. "What this dog will do is make her aware she can actually sleep comfortably at night and now there is a potential this dog will alert her that she is having a seizure."
