If disaster strikes, city leaders want Rock Island to be
prepared.
And a big grant will help with that.
The city has received a grant for $100 thousand from the Illinois
Department of Commerce and Economic Development.
The money will be used to update the city's disaster plan,
which mainly focuses on flooding.
The city's economic planning director said it's also time to
update some old comprehensive disaster plans.
"We have a very old comprehensive plan done in the
mid–70s. We have a series of
neighborhood plans that were done in the 80s and early 90s. We'll be starting from those plans," said
Jeff Eder of Rock Island Community and Economic Planning.
It's expected to take 12 to 18 months to finalize what
exactly those plans will include.
