We're just days away from more than $85 billion in federal spending cuts known as "the sequester."
The cuts were designed to be so severe that they'd force lawmakers to reach a budget deal; but they haven't yet.
Tuesday in Rock Island, Congressman Dave Loebsack and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos toured Mandus Group to see how those drastic cuts would affect local defense companies.
The representatives say these kind of drastic cuts aren't the answer.
"There can be savings found anywhere," says Rep. Dave Loebsack. "How much remains to be seen but I think we have to actual look hard and in a more thoughtful approach than has been the case so far."
The deadline for congress to avoid the sequester is March 1st.
