Tonight Rock Island City Council will get an idea of what's to come on the land near Jumer's Casino.

Tonight at a study session they'll see what a recent study of the area recommends.

The city recently decided to buy 90 acres of land at the I–280 and lL–92 crossing for new development.

City leaders then hired a consultant to do a study of the land.

The study looked at all the businesses within a 50 mile radius. It also analyzed the Rock Island population and surveyed Jumer's customers.

Tonight the consultant will make recommendations on what type's of businesses would work best there.

"My ideal scenario is to bring in retailers that aren't represented in the Quad cities. I don't want to bring in ones that are already here and cannibalize what we already have," said City Manager Thomas Thomas.

City leaders say there is no time line for when a decision will be made on developers because the land still has to be rezoned.

Although this is just the beginning of the process, Thomas says there will be no shortage of developers when the land is ready for construction.

"Well I think the timing is perfect. I think we're coming out of the recession. Developers are calling about trying to spend money, looking sites that can spend and make money off of," said Thomas.

If you'd like to learn more city council will hold a study session at 5:30PM at City Hall before they're regular council meeting at 6:45PM. Both are open to the public.
